I knew going in, it wasn't going to be easy. Free time, whats that? As you might have guessed, blogging/crafting have not been priorities. Taking care of the babe, maintaining the house and going to work is pretty much all I do. I'm not complaining, because out of those three things, the only one I hate doing is the house work. Since most of my time is occupied any spare time I do have, I'm tired or want to spend it with my husband. I just haven't felt that drive to do much. <div>
<br></div>
<div>
I also felt that it was important to disconnect for a bit. I was so sucked into this blog, my etsy shop and my little craft room, I needed to walk away from it for a bit. Especially for the baby's first year. There have been opportunities to do work on stuff while she was just hanging around, but I was more motivated to spend it with her than spend it in front of the computer. Its something I recommend anyone do if they get sucked into a social media whirl wind, its nice to just walk away for a bit. Now that I have I feel a bit refreshed and ready to start again. </div>
<div>
<br></div>
<div>
Just because I haven't been blogging or doing much crafting doesn't mean I haven't been creative. I've been doing a few things that are easier to do with my little girl crawling around. </div>
<div>
<br></div>
<div>
I've hopped on the adult coloring bandwagon. I think we need a new name for this trend. Adult coloring book sounds like its full of nudie pictures. Anyway, moving on, I got a coloring book full of kaleidoscope designs and I've been enjoying it. I even caught my husband Tim coloring a page! </div>
<div>
<br></div>
<div>
I've also been doing a few <a href="http://lynda.com/">Lynda.com</a> classes. For those that are unfamiliar with Lynda.com, it is an excellent source for education on a various types of media. I'm lucky enough to have a library that has a subscription, so check a library in your area because you may be able to access this site for free!</div>
<div>
I have been the most interested in the drawing classes. I've done a few drawing challenges and more recently have been tying to teach myself how to make vector images. The goal here is to make my own silhouette images. When I make stuff for personal use I usually just grab an image online and trace it, however if I'm going to sell my own stuff, I want to be able to make my own graphics. </div>
<div>
<br></div>
<div>
To help keep my creative brain going I do daily drawing prompts and sometimes writing prompts. Here is an adorable otter I drew, complete with mustache. </div>

Now that I feel normal again and I have my energy back, I got my desire to DIY back! Here are some of the creative things I have been up to… </span></div>
<div class="p1">
<span class="s1"><br /></span></div>
<div class="p1">
<span class="s1"><span class="Apple-tab-span"> </span>We had a big hunk of wood hanging around in the garage. It was calling to me, “Sarina repurpose me into something pretty!” I couldn’t ignore it any longer! So since I was no longer prohibited from staining, I gave it a coat of dark stain and added a quote. Since this was going in the living room, I couldn’t use just any old quote. I wanted to do something about love that wasn’t going to make me or Tim puke. I found a quote from Lord of the Rings that I liked and the quickest way to my husband’s heart is through Tolkien. For the lettering I found a cool Lord of the Rings font that just gives it the extra nerdy pizazz. </span></div>

After a quick glance at the calendar I came to the shocking realization that six weeks have already flown by! It felt like it had gone by so fast but at the same time it feels like my little girl has been in my life forever. Its a weird feeling. I am also incredibly proud of myself for making it this far with very little breakdowns. I have heard horror stories of how hard motherhood is and in my experience, its not hard but it also isn't easy. I've managed to get things done, despite being interrupted with feedings and diaper changes. I have had help. Here are some of the things that helped me keep my sanity, some you can buy and some you can't.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEir9WZUkBXHH-JU5ZPl5c8hzGm-5p8-bi-EOezntnoCtbVCGnIjVgl3yYfcB6OrkvLsCYfxFRS2bA3BUZonDVIhryc46i2uUEVbKwACePHx2UWqmJNMKsf2TPYFYLy9T7Ldmh3xqgfu-eMU/s1600/How+I+Survived.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEir9WZUkBXHH-JU5ZPl5c8hzGm-5p8-bi-EOezntnoCtbVCGnIjVgl3yYfcB6OrkvLsCYfxFRS2bA3BUZonDVIhryc46i2uUEVbKwACePHx2UWqmJNMKsf2TPYFYLy9T7Ldmh3xqgfu-eMU/s1600/How+I+Survived.png" height="400" width="266" /></a></div>
<br />
<ol>
<li>iPhone: This has become one of my most vital tools! I use the Baby Feeding Schedule app to track her habits (feeding time, diapers and sleep) When she is a bit extra fussy I use Pandora, Songza or Amazon Music to play some calm music for her. She really enjoys Sufjan Stevens. I also use it to take some quick snap shots of her when I don't have time to get my fancy camera. I know people have been having babies for millions of years, but I don't know how those moms survived with out a smart phone! </li>
<li>Rock & Play sleeper: I didn't bother with a bassinet. Babies only stay in those things for a short time! Instead we opted for the Rock & Play sleeper. Its awesome because its portable. She would be asleep in it and we could move it around from room to room with out disturbing her. It was also nice because it is tilted which came in handy to help with our little girls reflux. </li>
<li>Books: In between naps there is lots of down time. Be warned they are short periods of free time, so it can be difficult to actually get anything really productive done. There were also some times when I couldn't get my little girl to settle down and reading aloud from my kindle came in handy. After the morning feedings the little lady is usually very alert, so that is the best time to read some picture books with her. She loves it! </li>
<li>Brewer's Yeast and Mother's Milk Tea: At a few weeks old she wasn't gaining weight. I had to supplement with some formula for a bit and I had a mental breakdown. "Is there something wrong with my breastmilk? Am I not drinking enough water? Am I a terrible Mom?!" The doctor assured me that it is normal, and there is nothing wrong with me. To help boost up the supply I had some Mother's Milk Tea on hand. Its not the best tasting of teas but it helps! I have also been taking some Brewer's Yeast supplements. Its helped not only with feedings but also with pumping. </li>
<li>Netflix: Speaking of pumping, I felt like I was chained to that stupid machine when I was trying to build up a stash. What to do when I'm stuck there pumping away? Watch TV. I've been binging a lot! Including Parks and Recreation, Twin Peaks and a lot of documentaries. </li>
</ol>
<div>
Things you can't buy: </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<ol>
<li>Baby Daddy: I lucked out, not only is Tim an amazing husband, but he is a great father. He's so supportive and when I'm at my wits end, he takes the baby without me asking. He shares many special moments with her and its just so nice to see. I am a Daddy's girl and I know about that special bond between father and daughter. Its interesting to see that relationship from another perspective. </li>
<li>A Mom expert: Its good to know a seasoned veteran that you can go to for answers. My sister-in-law Trisha has been a huge help and has been my go to person for help and support. I don't think I could have made it through breastfeeding with out her advice. When I was freaking out it was nice to shoot her a quick text to reassure me something was normal. </li>
<li>Treat yo Self: Raising a baby is not easy. It can be exhausting, repetitive and painful. So remember... Treat Yo Self! I would take a few special trips to the craft store and indulge in some sweet treats. Treating myself to a little something helped me keep my sanity.</li>

<div class="p1">
<span class="s1"><br /></span></div>
<div class="p1">
<span class="s1"><br /></span></div>
<div class="p1">
<span class="s1">Baby stuff for some reason is ridiculously expensive. With all the extra expenses a baby brings into a household it had me looking for deals and how we can save money. Despite being on a budget I didn’t want to sacrifice having fun with my new baby, like spreading the news of my little girl with birth announcements. </span></div>
<div class="p1">
<span class="s1"><br /></span></div>
<div class="p1">
<span class="s1"><span class="Apple-tab-span"> </span>After coming home from the hospital (and when I had a spare minute) I did some shopping and found that birth announcements through photo services were one dollar each. This doesn’t sound like a lot, but I figured I needed to order about 75 and when you have to order in bulk, that is money that could be used on diapers or other essentials! So I got a little more creative and came up with another option which was dramatically cheaper and I ended up paying about $13 instead of $75.</span></div>
<div class="p1">
<span class="s1"><br /></span></div>
<div class="p1">
<span class="s1"><span class="Apple-tab-span"> </span>So are you wondering how I saved so much ? It involved a little bit of work but was well worth it. Here is how I did it. </span></div>

<div class="p1">
<span class="s1"><span class="Apple-tab-span"> </span>I looked at some other birth announcements for some inspiration. Once I figured out a design idea I picked out the photos that I wanted to use. We were lucky enough to have some great shots of our daughters early days. I also have sister-in-law who is very talented when it comes to photography. So we decided to go with those pictures. </span></div>
<div class="p1">
<span class="s1"><br /></span></div>
<div class="p1">
<span class="s1"><span class="Apple-tab-span"> </span>Next I went to my favorite photo editing tool, <a href="http://picmonkey.com/">Picmonkey.com</a>. </span>I used Picmonkey’s collage tool. I reformatted the pixel size to match up the photo size that I wanted. I went with 1200 x 1800 pixels for a 4 x 6 size photo. <a href="http://www.picmonkey.com/help/articles/633730-standard-photo-print-size">Here</a> is a list of photo sizes and their pixel dimensions that is very helpful. </div>

<br /></div>
<div class="p2">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1">
<span class="s1">After my page size was formatted, I picked out a collage style I wanted to use. I wanted to keep it simple so went with a square deal variation. Then I added my pictures and readjusting them to my liking. I kept one section blank because that is where my text will go. I selected the swatches tool and added a decorative swatch to the text box. Lastly I added a background color.</span> After doing a bit of tweaking and I liked how the pictures looked, I saved the picture. I saved mine as a png. This file size gives you a good quality image.</div>

She made her grand entrance into this world about two weeks ago and she is a perfect little lady. Here is her birth story....<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmFn8Ban7qvjH5MrzlPLb9PEpwcoq6s0_ODlytDD_79vOfVRHca_UNxKfTrxTXWXA98L3KlWR3JJu1IKx6OMn6ApEaCMDeDmZsn8JU5nPAWJqqR29bGWFRWguHvQM1FysHvSDX_KJzmvnt/s1600/IMG_0959.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmFn8Ban7qvjH5MrzlPLb9PEpwcoq6s0_ODlytDD_79vOfVRHca_UNxKfTrxTXWXA98L3KlWR3JJu1IKx6OMn6ApEaCMDeDmZsn8JU5nPAWJqqR29bGWFRWguHvQM1FysHvSDX_KJzmvnt/s1600/IMG_0959.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I starting having some sharp pains one evening. The pain would come and go periodically and pretty soon I realized there was pattern to the pain and that they were contractions! I started to keep track of them while also trying to sleep through the night. Later the next morning the contractions were closer together. After calling the Doctor they told me to come on in to the hospital. As we started to gather our things for the hospital, Tim and I took a minute to realize we would be coming back to our house with an extra person.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEja1OK65nWEgN3tyAVM8oDiM9ibI_AmrgRW5vJIGrKFGSY9YSH3U35q4F4YcbT_NFi5fvbK9QMJvl2NIzW6s-iAC4R1nDvNEolC5sXhkNhInwxJBGdwjn1IeDjZjSmaFHuGE2TyBSr4sm8I/s1600/IMG_0946.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEja1OK65nWEgN3tyAVM8oDiM9ibI_AmrgRW5vJIGrKFGSY9YSH3U35q4F4YcbT_NFi5fvbK9QMJvl2NIzW6s-iAC4R1nDvNEolC5sXhkNhInwxJBGdwjn1IeDjZjSmaFHuGE2TyBSr4sm8I/s1600/IMG_0946.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
As we got the hospital, the pain got worse. The nurses and doctors examined me and told me that although I was having contractions, my water did not break. I was to be induced. This began the most painful 12 hours of my life. The contractions became so severe and every time I felt one I took hold of Tim's hand and gave it a good squeeze. I also tried all of the breathing techniques, all of which did not help with the pain. Despite being so tired, I tried to get some sleep but it was interrupted. I was also hooked up to an IV which I had to take with me anytime I had to go to the bathroom and Tim had to help me. It was all so romantic. Eventually my water broke!<br />
<br />
I was moved to the labor and delivery wing of the hospital, this was the room I was going to have the baby in! This is when they offered me an epidural which I give a big YES to! The pain went away and I felt incredibly relaxed. Now we just had to wait to push. Tim and I took the time to enjoy our last hours together as just a couple, before we became a family. We made each other laugh and Tim served me some jello.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgwFew4puhwqhiIN-StQslKFS_Y0bG9ATngVCaJ12fnEpDWGlFJ4w_Y3jWKx_wr4sqKWtWpCGJRZKo8FqBASpi3GKBej1_FYgwjR-fLhz4B4lK5oxowFDJZ-wtDxEVNH7BzeO7QmzFOxbA/s1600/IMG_0952.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgwFew4puhwqhiIN-StQslKFS_Y0bG9ATngVCaJ12fnEpDWGlFJ4w_Y3jWKx_wr4sqKWtWpCGJRZKo8FqBASpi3GKBej1_FYgwjR-fLhz4B4lK5oxowFDJZ-wtDxEVNH7BzeO7QmzFOxbA/s1600/IMG_0952.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
We were watching Blazing Saddles on the hospital TV when the doctor told me that it was time to push! I ended up pushing for about an hour and a half. This was the thing that always scared me when it came to child bearing, getting the baby out of me! However, compared to the previous evening of hell, pushing was a lot less painful. Tim was there holding my leg cheering me on the entire time. I kept pushing and then before I knew it, they place a baby on top of me. Her eyes were wide open and she was so alert and I said "Well hello there." It was truly amazing to finally meet the little person that was growing inside of you for nine months, to see the hands and feet that were kicking me from the inside and to actually see her face instead of the spectral image of a sonogram.<br />
<br />
She is just about two weeks old and I think I'm getting the hang of this motherhood thing. She is a perfect little baby!<br />

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I've been planning this kids nursery since I found out I was pregnant. I've had a lot more fun planning this room than doing any other room in the house. That probably explains why she has the most complete, put together room in the entire house. I think it came beautifully and I hope she loves it as much as I do.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhA2wZDitrJzOQNxyrSNoYyhPO0zntW365XHGg5U3rJQH13QyO8rSZUt5A9XOGsUKA3f6jLVxyPEZN_aVuIGgy-e-CNyfakdNwhzsizDklaTAIXWLFsZBAU5HGIFu681_C6Ru_FcCZPmXR0/s1600/nursery+collage.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhA2wZDitrJzOQNxyrSNoYyhPO0zntW365XHGg5U3rJQH13QyO8rSZUt5A9XOGsUKA3f6jLVxyPEZN_aVuIGgy-e-CNyfakdNwhzsizDklaTAIXWLFsZBAU5HGIFu681_C6Ru_FcCZPmXR0/s1600/nursery+collage.jpg" height="377" width="640" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Here is how I set out to create an adorable little space for my little lady. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I like to plan early (because I'm a bit of a crazy person). Since we had yet to find out the sex of the baby I decided to go with a gender neutral theme. I should also mention that I'm not too thrilled with gender heavy themes, no ridiculous pinky princesses for girls or heavy duty sports things for boys. </div>
<div>
With that in mind I set out to find a theme! I took some inspiration from work, some of my favorite stories to read feature woodland creatures.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51o3sjWyQOL.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51o3sjWyQOL.jpg" height="295" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41wPM68RtXL.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41wPM68RtXL.jpg" height="320" width="225" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
With a theme picked out I took a look around the inter-webs to see how other woodland creature themed nursery's have turned out. This one featured on <a href="http://www.thelittleumbrella.com/2013/11/coles-retro-woodland-themed-nursery/">the Little Umbrella</a> was pretty adorable. I looked at a few others and took what I liked. I also found this post full of<a href="http://littlegoldpixel.com/2014/10/free-printables-for-kids/"> free printables</a>!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/8b/43/3d/8b433d017e81918330df1aa61afe37ed.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/8b/43/3d/8b433d017e81918330df1aa61afe37ed.jpg" width="231" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Next it was time to take all of my ideas and inspirations and focus them into a plan! I found a color scheme that was kid friendly, but not ridiculously loud. Despite being anti-pink, I thought it couldn't hurt to have some pink accents, but for the wall color I went with the teal blue. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
For furniture, I went with white and mostly stuff from Ikea. I woke up one morning in December crying and freaking out that nothing was getting done and that we wouldn't be ready for our little lady! Tim told me I was acting cray-cray and my friend Caitie came to my rescue. After an entire fun friend afternoon, I left with some essential items! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.ikea.com/us/en/images/products/hemnes-drawer-chest-white__0236289_PE376029_S4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.ikea.com/us/en/images/products/hemnes-drawer-chest-white__0236289_PE376029_S4.JPG" height="200" width="200" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The dresser was probably one of the most important elements of the room. We do have a closet in the room, but little people go through clothes so fast! Also the dresser doubles as changing table. I originally had a larger Hemnes style dresser picked out, however afters seeing it in person I realized it was too big for the space! So pro-tip, pick out the furniture in person before purchasing it! So I went with the <a href="http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10242635/">smaller dresser.</a> The dresser also doubles as a changing table and it fits the changing pad perfectly! If you are concerned about safety (because its not secured to anything) I used some velcro to affix it to the dresser and I also picked up some no-slip material from the dollar store to make it more secure. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.ikea.com/us/en/images/products/raskog-utility-cart-turquoise__0144044_PE304208_S4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.ikea.com/us/en/images/products/raskog-utility-cart-turquoise__0144044_PE304208_S4.JPG" height="200" width="200" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Since I went with the smaller dresser I had to think about all of the diaper changing accessories I'll need at my finger tips. This gave me a legitimate reason to purchase the <a href="http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/30216536/">raskog cart</a>. Ever since seeing the cart in the Ikea catalog I wanted it, but never really had a reason, till now! The cart is also going to come in handy because its mobile, so I can wheel it on over to help me with late night feedings, into the bathroom during bath time and of course wheel it over for diaper changes.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.ikea.com/us/en/images/products/magnarp-floor-lamp-beige__0176531_PE329335_S4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.ikea.com/us/en/images/products/magnarp-floor-lamp-beige__0176531_PE329335_S4.JPG" height="200" width="200" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The room didn't have any lighting! So I wanted to get a floor lamp that would brighten up the space. After seeing <a href="http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/30232225/">this lamp</a> at my friends house, I thought it would work well in the baby's room. After doing some more research I discovered that I could get special e12 lightbulbs and a dimmer. Thats something I might look into later when I have to check on her late at night.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.ikea.com/us/en/images/products/sundvik-crib-white__0135188_PE291924_S4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.ikea.com/us/en/images/products/sundvik-crib-white__0135188_PE291924_S4.JPG" height="200" width="200" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My mom and future step-sister, Trish came to my rescue this time around. I went with the <a href="http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/30248575/">sundvik crib</a> because of size, price and function. Some other cribs are like cadillacs! I didn't need this huge epic crib, so I went with simple with the crib. What is nice about cribs is that they have a standardized size to match up with the mattress. I was concerned about safety because of some <a href="http://www.ikea.com/us/en/about_ikea/newsitem/011315_recall-VYSSA-crib-mattresses">recall issues</a>. So even though I went with an Ikea crib, I went with a different mattress. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I went with the <a href="http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=17200516&fromRegistryNumber=54719805&product_skn=851755">glider </a>from Babies R us. The colors matched and its one of the smallest for this tiny room.<br />

<br /></div>
<div>
<br />
With all of the main pieces in place I felt like there was something missing. I thought how could that be, I had thought of everything! Apparently my co-workers knew exactly what I needed. They through me a wonderful shower. Of course it involved getting lots of books and a bookcase to house all of them in! It wasn't just any old bookcase. My very talented department manager, Kim, custom painted it to match the baby's sheet set! I love how it turned out and it fits in the room perfectly! </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Today is my due date! I have everything ready for her and she has to do is get here. The room is all set, her clothes are all washed and the hospital bag is all packed. Now we just need a baby.<br />

Throughout my pregnancy I have been touched by everyone's kindness and generosity. I had a wonderful shower at the end of January. The lovely ladies of the library also through me a little shindig and there was even a shower for Tim at his job! I have even received gifts from library patrons! I can't tell you how incredible it is to receive all this well wishes and love from so many people. As seen above, Gypsy is also very touched. </div>

This past week I received a pleasant surprise in the mail, Geeky Sprinkles! A while back Tara from <a href="http://www.geekyhostess.com/">the Geek Hostess</a> started a kick starter project to create nerd themed sprinkles. I donated and was lucky enough to get some police box sprinkles in a backer package. I look forward to making delicious nerdy treats with these delicious morsels. She was successfully funded and you can head on over to her blog and purchase some of your own! </div>

Unfortunately not everything has been super happy. My cat friend, Bmo took a terrible turn and deteriorated fast. He hung on for a bit, but he let us know that he was ready to go. It was one of the hardest things I've had to do because this is the first pet I've had to put down myself. He was extra cuddly with me during my pregnancy and he would knead my bump and she would kick back. I'm sad that they never got to meet in person. </div>

<div>
<br></div>
<div>
<br></div>
I'm at the home stretch, only a few weeks left until my little lady is here. I was starting to have a breakdown, because I felt like there was soooo much to get done in such a shot amount of time. I had this recurring nightmare that she came super early and we had nothing set up for her, so room, crib etc! Then everything came together seemingly all at once! <div>
<br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_F2LDMwTavz251KjPunPKPNtf3tTvlmzLEL5cqNacId_MhgiRa3YF5Akk77-LWmJUtMegHaCzW8QQ-NlwwJxOdjG_pZsczAGiud1xG1brdSYJ7uTSxnNGBWXDULm0K6zYS7i3OcNppbpU/s640/blogger-image--669582766.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_F2LDMwTavz251KjPunPKPNtf3tTvlmzLEL5cqNacId_MhgiRa3YF5Akk77-LWmJUtMegHaCzW8QQ-NlwwJxOdjG_pZsczAGiud1xG1brdSYJ7uTSxnNGBWXDULm0K6zYS7i3OcNppbpU/s640/blogger-image--669582766.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div><br></div>
<div>
Last week Tim told me we were "going to the movies" but I had a hunch I knew what was up.... it was Baby Shower time! I had known that my Mom and friends, Caitie and Laura were working on because I requested a Superhero theme. They took my idea (demand) and ran with it. They had some help from my Mom's friend Rihanna, who is starting up a party planning business. </div>
<div>
<br></div>
<div>
<br></div>
<div>
So we walked into the "movies" and it looked like an adorable super hero wonderland. The decorations were adorable and I loved all the fine details. From the "Pow" and "smash" call outs, super hero water bottles and the super girl silhouette that was throughout the party. I loved it because it means this girl is going to be a little butt kicker and not a prissy princess. The silhouette shape was even on the cake! Caitie's sister Kim (baker extraordinaire) made an amazing three layer cake that tasted just as impressive as it looked!</div>
<div>
<br></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixHPetfrfDF4xXcLQU1j8ryeymsaUrxz8JY6mocFQ6w7IIhIO9CSrHyzBRuuU5e6PiHeBeCKTAtUW-QF5xUPS-SOiQWP8eU5KheB8dAyI1kBaH8nFubtD17B0h4jUm0j5SaaKbV1k7ZvdO/s1600/shower+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixHPetfrfDF4xXcLQU1j8ryeymsaUrxz8JY6mocFQ6w7IIhIO9CSrHyzBRuuU5e6PiHeBeCKTAtUW-QF5xUPS-SOiQWP8eU5KheB8dAyI1kBaH8nFubtD17B0h4jUm0j5SaaKbV1k7ZvdO/s1600/shower+1.jpg" height="211" width="640"></a></div>
<div>
<br></div>
<div>
<br></div>
<div>
I wasn't the only one impressed with the decorations. All of my library peeps commandeered most of the decorations after the party because it goes with our Summer Reading Program theme this year, Every Hero Has a Story. I think while working on stuff for that, all of superhero theme stuff subconsciously influenced my desire for this as a shower theme. My Mom and friends were glad to hand over the decorations to them. Laura even asked if it counts as a tax write off. </div>
<div>
<br></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgeLvLZChgVcXr5oF-kvFa2xBtBxV_osuebbdB_tQDIHIIFQXnipHqK_RSeufC5t9Y-08Np5x2Lb8v0KGipWx6FGa6xuSjMVfYZbZDaYFw_mUWtrfjusfRHz0ZrceMWOurCGHpcxL_yT_F7/s1600/shower+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgeLvLZChgVcXr5oF-kvFa2xBtBxV_osuebbdB_tQDIHIIFQXnipHqK_RSeufC5t9Y-08Np5x2Lb8v0KGipWx6FGa6xuSjMVfYZbZDaYFw_mUWtrfjusfRHz0ZrceMWOurCGHpcxL_yT_F7/s1600/shower+2.jpg" height="640" width="640"></a></div>
<div>
<br></div>
<div>
<br></div>
<div>
Its so overwhelming and emotional to see the effort people went through to put this together just because they love you. What is even more touching is that these same people are going to be apart of my baby's life and love her just as much. </div>
<div>
<br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVxw7rugZrxSVlXOA1kOW8k8Iw1uMJPcsvmhNgFHHI5IU7GZpUAQqEf4ttDIWWBV1C2bCRbS531pf7cZsfQtgy5RJ8czhUGnLjXjpWgyLiHpJrR9XU1-7sPZ-8PnGOoqeAnsS5daYeH-0I/s640/blogger-image--747265391.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVxw7rugZrxSVlXOA1kOW8k8Iw1uMJPcsvmhNgFHHI5IU7GZpUAQqEf4ttDIWWBV1C2bCRbS531pf7cZsfQtgy5RJ8czhUGnLjXjpWgyLiHpJrR9XU1-7sPZ-8PnGOoqeAnsS5daYeH-0I/s640/blogger-image--747265391.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div><br></div>
<div>
The shower also came at the right time, right before a blizzard! So with the snow day I ended up sorting through all of the gifts and putting together the little lady's room. Here is a little preview. </div>
<div>
<br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXgehIeG3PAkXGOk4IA9Pw8dzUar_5BNclGwPDqm_qaf_3NcKDgetKCigCENLJebdO8b-FRtt87jcpjN5uWH6EX_vH32eF0qIU17fo-O6KAUWsRPuHp0pF2z6DqrGTBL1uVYApu5IOQgXm/s640/blogger-image--599341010.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXgehIeG3PAkXGOk4IA9Pw8dzUar_5BNclGwPDqm_qaf_3NcKDgetKCigCENLJebdO8b-FRtt87jcpjN5uWH6EX_vH32eF0qIU17fo-O6KAUWsRPuHp0pF2z6DqrGTBL1uVYApu5IOQgXm/s640/blogger-image--599341010.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div><br></div>
<div>
The little lady will be here in a few weeks and I'm ready to meet her. I've had a great pregnancy so far and have felt fantastic, up until this past week. She is pretty active in the womb and is keeping my up at night. The belly has also caused an extreme amount of back pain! It hasn't been all bad though, I've got a nice little table that comes in handy at meal time. </div>

Ever since she met my little Bmo she has wanted to come over and take some snap shots of both of my furry children. With the recent Bmo health scare, it was time to make that happen. The results were beautiful and I thought I would share them with you.<br />

The last month certainly was a crazy one for me.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Right now my life is all about the baby. In December, I hit the nesting phase. I woke up one morning in a panic, " We need to paint the room!" "We need the furniture" "Where's the crib?!" and "How are we going to afford all of this?!" After a quick trip to Ikea and the Holiday season to distract me, I calmed down a bit. I even got a special surprise in the mail, when my friend Amanda sent me the baby's mobile for Christmas! Now I'm more excited than stressed, which is good because stress is not good for my little lady. The nursery is coming together and I have a theme picked out, Woodland creatures. I found some cute inspiration and am putting all of the pieces together. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
With that stuff getting together, I've just been dealing with the physical burden's of pregnancy. I've given up trying to wear my regular pants with the help of the trusty belly band. It did help me post pone maternity clothes purchase until now. The belly has gotten pretty huge, Tim is still shocked whenever he sees it.. and he sees it every single day. I particularly enjoy feeling her move around. I first felt it on my birthday back in October. Tim joked that it was birthday punches. Now its so frequent and visible! When she is stretching her legs I drop everything and stare at the waves she's making on my belly. I will admit its not always the best feeling because I've defiantly gotten kicked in the ovaries a few times. I think this kid is destined for karate. </div>
<div>

I've also had to focus on my original babies, the animals. Bmo was acting a little funny so I took him to the vet and didn't get the best news in the world. He has some kidney issues and now has to undergo some serious treatment. We are staying positive though and so far he has been responding pretty well.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This year at the library Margaret and I thought we need some special costumes. I thought who better than our favorite Mo Willems' duo, Elephant and Piggie! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I looked around at some other costumes for ideas. Some looked really involved and a bit too silly for Margaret and I. After cleaning out a closet I found some left over crafts from a Mo Willems party and some craft foam. A light bulb went off and I began planning our costumes! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://scontent-a-lga.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xfp1/v/t1.0-9/1374118_10203560650391807_4841900447075244933_n.jpg?oh=4a24e2b98478362cd9be491a150f02ea&oe=54E19FAE" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://scontent-a-lga.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xfp1/v/t1.0-9/1374118_10203560650391807_4841900447075244933_n.jpg?oh=4a24e2b98478362cd9be491a150f02ea&oe=54E19FAE" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We had some spare pieces from Elephant and Piggie paper bag puppets. I used those pieces to make a template and traced them out on foam. I love that Mo will purposely make his characters simple because he wants his younger readers to be able to draw them, so making these costumes were easy. I then cut out the foam pieces, glued them together and added some elastic. They came out looking really cute! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here is how you can make your own Elephant & Piggie Costumes! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<ul>
<li>Materials & Tools: </li>
<li>Scissors</li>
<li>pencil </li>
<li>Sharpie marker </li>
<li>Pattern </li>
<li>Craft foam (Pink & Gray) </li>
<li>Elastic </li>
<li>Hot glue gun </li>
<li>T-shirt (Pink & Gray) </li>
</ul>
<br />
Instructions:<br />
<br />
<ol>
<li>Print out or draw your pattern pieces, then cut them out</li>
<li>Lay the pattern over craft foam and trace them with a pencil. Piggie pieces go on pink foam and Elephant pieces on gray. </li>
<li>Go over the pencil with a sharpie and fill in the details of the characters. </li>
<li>Cut out all of your foam pieces</li>
<li>Use the hot glue gun and put all of the pieces together and allow to dry</li>
<li>Take the elastic and measure it around your head. Make sure you cut it a bit smaller than what you measured so that it will fit nicely on your head.</li>
<li>Once the hot glue on the foam dries, use it to attach the elastic. Allow to dry. </li>
<li>Try it on and wear a matching color T-shirt. </li>
</ol>

Hello friends! I have had an exciting October thurs far! I haven't been crafting all the much but I have been busy.<br />
<br />
Early on in the month was my birthday! Whoo-hoo! We celebrated with a super nice dinner party at the house.<br />

<br />
The following week was fun because I went to New York Comic Con!!!! After many desperate attempts I was finally approved for a professional pass! (yay freebies) I went with my co-workers Margaret and Erin. It was a lot of fun and I enjoyed the cool perks of having a Pro pass (like cutting the huge line!).<br />
My first stop was getting Arthur Darvill's autograph! It was a little nerve racking because I missed R.L. Stine's panel and Mr. Darvill got stuck in traffic and showed up late. However I go it and I talked to him briefly. He was really nice.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
We walked around the show floor for a bit and it was quite a lot to take in. We stopped by some book vendors and got more freebies! Whoo-hoo! There were some great cos-play going on and my co-workers kept asking "Who's that guy?" I knew most of them except when it came to the anime guys. There are too many animes to keep track of! Then we headed to the main hall for the Bob's Burgers panel. It was really cool to see the voice actors. They were really funny and I would have liked to see them riff some more before they started with the fan questions. I especially love John Roberts! He does the voice of Linda and has one of my favorite <a href="https://www.youtube.com/user/JohnRoberts">Youtube channels</a> of all time.<br />
<br />
Although I didn't dress up at comic con, we are in the Halloween season so that meant parties! I have a really great costume this year. After years of harassing Tim to do a couples costume, he finally gave in and suggested that we go as Bob and Linda from Bob's Burgers. Since I was still riding that high from comic con panel I was happy to comply. To complete the costume we made some slider burgers and of course it was a Halloween themed burger of the day, "I've Created a Muenster Burger" What do you think?<br />

A while ago I announced that after a hiatus that I was back.... then nothing. Well a few different things happened in my life this year that caused my absence. 2014 has possibly been one of the worst years of my life.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOx9nYc1HC3LivPpB8pFrKYUHz0dEiBxXdwirfg-U4CksmNVAV2UAe-IENQtyUr0CvEZseEGKy2kBnD8KNv7xVE2FNXazawiUB7lqfLriw3SZQ77EOf2_q4v_dA2-lg5pSk4417Qd8KwWV/s1600/back+to+the+blog!.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOx9nYc1HC3LivPpB8pFrKYUHz0dEiBxXdwirfg-U4CksmNVAV2UAe-IENQtyUr0CvEZseEGKy2kBnD8KNv7xVE2FNXazawiUB7lqfLriw3SZQ77EOf2_q4v_dA2-lg5pSk4417Qd8KwWV/s1600/back+to+the+blog!.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
Back in January I posted a little something explaining that I was going through some stuff. It is all very person and I do not want to go into details of what happened, but it was pretty traumatic for me. I slumped into a depression and blog posts and craft projects did not seem so important at the time. I had no desire to enter the craft dungeon and it was probably weeks, even months before I went back in there. Incidentally this time person was one of my most successful times on Etsy. Luckily I had worked up an inventory, because I was not into making new items at the time. I also feel that was the universes way of telling me to try and get back into it. I ignored the universe for a little bit longer.<br />
<br />
I decided to pour all of that energy into work. Then in the Spring I was dealt with another crazy twist, the death of a coworker. This person had not only a critical role in my life as a librarian, but as a person. This was a person who gave an eager library school student a chance and taught me a lot about the professional world and shaped me into the librarian I am today. (PS I am respecting this persons privacy by not naming names)<br />
<br />
This sudden passing occurred at the best/worst time of the year, Summer Reading Program. It was good because there was so much to get done that it was a welcome distraction from our grief. It was also the worst time because we had lost a member of our team at such an crucial time!<br />
<br />
Most of Spring and all of my Summer was devoted to work. At the end of some pretty long days, I could not find the energy to blog or do anything at home, other than sleep. My heart just wasn't in it. I even considered deleting the blog and closing up my Etsy shop.<br />
<br />
Tim started to get really worried about me. He kept insisting that I get back in the craft dungeon and make stuff again. He had seen how happy it made me and he kept saying that I should not give up on it. I also think he was partially motivated by the monetary benefits of this hobby. So after making excuses and avoiding the craft room and the blog, I am back!<br />
<br />
I am also trying to be a bit more optimistic about the crappiest year of my life. Looking back on 2014 so far, I had some pretty great moments. <br />
<br />
I saw two of my best friends get married!<br />

There are still a few months left in the year to enjoy. We are entering my favorite season, Fall and like F. Scott Fitzgerald said, " Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the Fall." </div>

<br />
Since my last post was in May, I'm sure you have been wondering whats happened. Summer Reading Club... that happened! The Summer is the busiest time of year for Children's librarians EVERYWHERE! This year has been especially difficult for a number of reasons. It has meant working a bit more so my blog and event my crafts have taken a back seat!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://encrypted-tbn1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcROjjaQArtwNegxUMsJAaAQL-4ygvVvpsq3MT6bMtBvmRDnBOz3" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://encrypted-tbn1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcROjjaQArtwNegxUMsJAaAQL-4ygvVvpsq3MT6bMtBvmRDnBOz3" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
However, we are almost at the midway point of the program and things are started to wind down ever so slightly. That means, I'm back baby! So strap in and enjoy more goodness!<br />
<br />

I have been making some pretty amazing things lately with the help of my glass etching kit. Its a special cream that is applied to a glass service and gives it a frosted or etched look. I've played around with frosted glass spray before, but the etching cream is superior. Etching is perfect for projects with a lot of detail and washable items. I found that the spray wipes off and is not super durable. So the etching cream is perfect for making custom wine glasses and things like that.<br />
<br />

<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Here is one of my latest projects, a monogramed candle holder. It came out looking pretty snazzy. I stuck in my guest bathroom because it needs a little decor. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Here is how I made it: </div>
<div>
<br />
Materials & Tools:<br />
<br />
<ul>
<li>Etching Cream </li>
<li>Contact Paper </li>
<li>Exacto Knife </li>
<li>Glass Vase </li>
<li>Gloves </li>
<li>Foam Brush</li>
<li>Candle </li>
</ul>
<br />
Instructions:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgtzR6cU4vA_JqflQ5wh-B-IzIS15scRWKYOFR2fZtT3cdAVIVpHgVxy_ihJ_9FttSgXwkiVFHiCpxhp2qzavO2ouV0RaMeTfZeVZhskhrkwC7F1lAsjlzOS5g7CS_LpSe4TW9H5aNAKppy/s1600/Monogram+instructions.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgtzR6cU4vA_JqflQ5wh-B-IzIS15scRWKYOFR2fZtT3cdAVIVpHgVxy_ihJ_9FttSgXwkiVFHiCpxhp2qzavO2ouV0RaMeTfZeVZhskhrkwC7F1lAsjlzOS5g7CS_LpSe4TW9H5aNAKppy/s1600/Monogram+instructions.jpg" height="640" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<ol>
<li>Create your stencil. I went with a monogram, but you can use whatever image you like. I recommend something simple and not very complicated. Draw your design on contact paper and cut it out with your exacto knife. </li>
<li>Clean your candle holder and then apply your stencil to it. Make sure to press out all of the air bubbles. </li>
<li>Before applying etching cream, wear protective gloves! That stuff is serious business and can damage your skin. </li>
<li>Apply a few coats of etching cream over the stencil. </li>
<li>Allow cream to dry. Some of the manufacturer directions vary, but I found waiting 24 hours gets the best results. </li>
<li>Take your candle holder and run it under warm water and take off the stencil. You will noticed your design has been etched! </li>
<li>Fill your candle holder with whatever decorations you would like. </li>
</ol>

After leaving a job in the corporate world back in 2012, I was itching to be creative//start writing again. I was working on my teaching degree + felt like everything I did was for an assignment or task someone else needed me to complete. Decided to start a blog + the rest is history.</div>

Iron Craft Challenge # 9 is '<a href="http://www.justcraftyenough.com/2014/04/iron-craft-14-challenge-9-inspired-by-art/">Inspired by Art</a>' So it got me thinking of some of my favorite art pieces. One of them is featured in Ferris Bueler's Day Off and Cameron has a serious stare down with a Surrat painting. Its one of my favorite scenes in movie history! </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiOej0QKYlYtQ8zzrNfKWNDQYZ3gJmwO9aKZPOnFc7Qwj4bL8tJ3_nJwLBcX9vng7-qX9IauX-ng39zJc5f8GM5GPFS83MvVkTJYF6-hDRNsmcAwDJyXfvZKGFvUMGfrIcg01lBKI42vk/s1600/ferris2.preview.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiOej0QKYlYtQ8zzrNfKWNDQYZ3gJmwO9aKZPOnFc7Qwj4bL8tJ3_nJwLBcX9vng7-qX9IauX-ng39zJc5f8GM5GPFS83MvVkTJYF6-hDRNsmcAwDJyXfvZKGFvUMGfrIcg01lBKI42vk/s1600/ferris2.preview.jpg" height="170" width="400" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
This painting uses the pointillism technique so I used that as my jumping off point for this project. It involves using a series of dots of varying colors to create a pattern in which an image emerges. Since I wasn't setting out to make a grand masterpiece I applied the idea to a small scale project, a small vase. I used an ampersand design (&) because they are just so neat and visually interesting. After my little vase was done I put some rocks in it and suck a candle in there. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Here is how you can make one yourself: </div>

<li>Contact Paper Stencil </li>
<li>Q-tips </li>

<li>Clean your jar/vase with some glass cleaner and dry it to remove any dust. </li>
<li>Apply your stencil to the jar/vase and press out the air bubbles as best you can.</li>

<br />
When it was announced another Star Wars Trilogy was in the works this scruffy looking nerf herder was estatic! I'm not the only one excited and the rumors have been going around. This past week J.J. Abrams released this picture:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://starwars.com/img/news/star-wars-episode-7-cast-announce.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://starwars.com/img/news/star-wars-episode-7-cast-announce.jpg" height="362" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The cast was officially announced!!! It confirmed rumors and pleased many fans to hear that they are getting the gang back together. Luke, Leia, Han, Chewie, R2 and 3PO!<br />
<br />
I'm also just as excited to hear about the people Star Wars newbs. Andy Serkis is going to be amazing. I hope plays some freaky motion capture alien creature. There is also a fair share of handsome men, Domnhall Gleeson (he will always be Bill Weasley to me) Oscar Issac and John Boyega (he was really awesome in Attack the Block)<br />
<br />
Here is what else we know about the series:<br />
<br />
<ul>
<li>It will take place 30 years after the events of Return of the Jedi </li>
<li>This series will not be based on the 'Expanded Universe or anything that happened in Star Wars rebels</li>
<li>The film is set to be released in December 2015</li>
</ul>

So I thought be appropriate we do some serious crafting with the teens!<br>
<div>
<br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgV8XIsAS2CtcQsOZLuZDOkArabKsYb7PGejqJ0nunwXSCF5xoswixuGVylmjFMLSCf52cNqPAcq7shhmz-CBvPaNzv2gXAJkwhiV8NLGCvL9m0jW30kJmnFA875SAvL5ZM-FSbBEOyI5St/s640/blogger-image--113369559.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgV8XIsAS2CtcQsOZLuZDOkArabKsYb7PGejqJ0nunwXSCF5xoswixuGVylmjFMLSCf52cNqPAcq7shhmz-CBvPaNzv2gXAJkwhiV8NLGCvL9m0jW30kJmnFA875SAvL5ZM-FSbBEOyI5St/s640/blogger-image--113369559.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div><br></div>
<div>
While looking for ideas I came across this project on <a href="http://www.brit.co/color-block-candles/">Brit Co</a>, using crayons to make candles!!! I've always wanted to do a candle making project but it always looks too complicated and dangerous in a group setting. This one however utilizes soy candle wax and a microwave. candle making made easy!<br>
<br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://static.brit.co.s3.amazonaws.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/Crayon-14-Row-645x429.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://static.brit.co.s3.amazonaws.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/Crayon-14-Row-645x429.jpg" height="212" width="320"></a></div>
<br>
<br>
I gathered all of the supplies and we got to work! Go to <a href="http://www.brit.co/color-block-candles/">Brit Co</a> for the full tutorial, but here are some tips that I picked up while adapting this project for a group.<br>
<br>
Crayon Candle Tips:<br>
<br>
<ul>
<li>Use Crayola crayons. There is some sort of special wax only in Crayola crayons that makes them melt. I tried with other types of crayons and it just doesn't work. Crayola only! </li>
<li>Waiting for each layer. I didn't realize that each layer needed to try before pouring on the next one. So while we waited for each layer, we played a few rounds of Apples to Apples. </li>
<li>Depending on how big your microwave is, you can melt up to four cups in the microwave all at once! That will help if you have a fun program of kids.</li>
<li>Be wary of the wicks! The wicks can get a little wobbly, so when pouring in the wax, make sure your keep it straight standing up! Mine shifted to the side and looks weird. </li>
</ul>

<br />
<br />
My pile of scraps have been growing. So I decided to do something about it and I've been doing a few different scrap busting projects. One of them is making a keychain wristlet. They are easy to make and they look great. They are also really durable. When the strap on my clutch wallet broke, I replace it with a wristlet, and its been working out quite nicely.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Here is how you can make your own: </div>

<li>loop puller </li>
<li>Iron</li>
</ul>
</div>
<div>
<h3>
<u>Instructions</u> </h3>
</div>
<div>
<ol>
<li>You will need two pieces of scrap fabric that measure, 2" by 11" (FYI be careful of the fabric you use, you want something nice a durable, but not took thick because you will run into problems later) </li>
<li>Place the right sides of fabric together, pin and sew along the long edges. Leave a 1/4 inch seam allowance. Congrats, you made a tube!</li>
<li>Use your loop puller and pull your 'tube' inside out. Use your iron to press the 'tube' so it is nice a crisp</li>
<li>Top stitch along the long edges</li>
<li>Insert 'tube' through the snap hook and fold it so that the two short edges are together. Pin and sew along the short edge </li>
<li>Flip the strap around, so that the other side is exposed. Move the sewn short edge over to the snap hook. </li>
<li>Pin and top stitch above where the snap hook is. This way you can cover up the raw edge and give your wristlet a nice finished touch.</li>
<li>Put some keys on it and you are good to go! </li>
</ol>

It was pretty magical. While channel surfing I came to the sci-fi channel and found a bad old movie on. I soon realized that people were talking over it and making funny jokes! I think a bunch of my friends discovered it around the same time because we would talk about it and have inside jokes influenced by MST3K. Fast forward a few years when as an adult I mentioned to someone how much I loved MST3K. The friend I was talking to, Mark, said "hey those guys are still riffing movies." He showed me <a href="http://www.rifftrax.com/">RiffTrax</a>. I was ecstatic! It was just like MST3k but with newer releases!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://edge-images.rifftrax.com/files/omegariff_logo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://edge-images.rifftrax.com/files/omegariff_logo.jpg" height="117" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
Since it was something I loved so much as a teen, I thought the teens at the library might also get a kick out of it. After mentioning it to the teen librarian, we set out looking up what riffs we could use. We did Avengers first and got a 'meh' review from the kids. We tried it again with the Hunger Games and I was thrilled to see them enjoy it. Here is a trailer for your enjoyment.<br />
<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/DMJ1Pm9mpdM" width="560"></iframe><br />
<br />
This is such a great simple idea to do with teens! All that is needed is a viewing space, a copy of the movie, the audio commentary and a speaker system. We are lucky enough to have a TV in the teen center and showed it on that. I downloaded the commentary from RiffTrax. They cost around four to five dollars. I then put that track on an iPod and used an iHome to play it along with the movie. The hardest part was getting the commentary and the movie in sync, so at first some of the jokes didn't match up. However I had one teen who was hell bent on getting them to match!<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.rifftrax.com/files/imagecache/catalog/files/posters/HungerGames_Web.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="http://www.rifftrax.com/files/imagecache/catalog/files/posters/HungerGames_Web.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a><br />
<br />
Afterwards they asked when we were going to do RiffTrax again. Librarian win! So head on over to <a href="http://www.rifftrax.com/">RiffTrax</a> and try it out at your library. This could also work with millennials because, like me, they grew up watching MST3K and miss it. If you try it in your library, let me know how it works out!<br />

This means I can start sprucing up the outside of the house. The front of our house needs a serious pop of color. It is very white. I thought a painted planter would help! <div>
<br /></div>
<div>
This planter project also meets the requirements of the latest Iron Craft Challenge # 8 - <a href="http://www.justcraftyenough.com/2014/04/iron-craft-14-challenge-8-spring-has-sprung/">Spring has Sprung</a>! The task for this challenge was to make something inspired by spring or Easter. </div>

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Since big planters can be kind of pricey, I thought about making a tiered planter. Since terra cotta planters are inexpensive, I bought three of varying sizes. I took them home and spray painted them with some color. I painted the top rim gold and the bottom a dark green. After I put it together I realized it looks like a Zelda inspired planter which was no my intention. </div>

After painting, I began to layer them together with soil and plastic planter turned upside down. That way you don't have a ridiculous amount of soil. After putting it all together it didn't seem very sturdy. I was worried about the wind blowing it over. So I had a dowel in the garage and was able to use that to keep it all together. </div>

It came out pretty fantastic! Now I just need to put some flowers in it! </div>

<br />
Last Friday Caitie and I went on a grand journey to Ikea! It is such a magical home decor wonderland. We got so frustrated because we wanted to buy EVERYTHING! I went with one goal in mind, a floor lamp. $70 later I left with a bunch of crap I'm not sure if I really needed. We were both really obsessed with this crazy lamp that looks like the death star when closed, then when open it looks like the death star mid explosion! </div>
<div>
<br /></div>

<br /></div>

Sadly I left without the buying the lamp....this time! In the middle of our spree we got a bit peckish so we got some food. We had the most delicious elderberry cupcake in the world. I'm really dead set on finding elderberry liqueur just so I can make these cupcakes! It was like a little puff of heaven. It was light with a little buttercream frosting.<br />
<br />
I haven't been doing too much on the crafting front, but I do have a few projects lined up. One of them is a part of an Iron Craft Challenge. This next challenge is all about Spring! I'm excited to transition and get away from the cold. I love living in a climate where I get to experience all of the seasons, however I am so done with winter! So for the Spring challenge, I plan on making a tiered planter. I'm going to paint it some nice color and put it on our porch.<br />

<br />
This past week was also a special Etsy landmark for me, I've made 70 sales! I know it doesn't sound like much but the fact that I've sold 70 of my handmade items to mostly to people I've never met, is pretty amazing. The big 70th sale was to someone I know very well, my aunt! I'm planning on making her something extra special.<br />
<br />

<br />
Another sale I made was my first custom order. I'm custom wall hanging sign for someone. It came out great and I hope she enjoys it!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1380537944l/17791477.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1380537944l/17791477.jpg" width="212" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I've been doing a lot of reading lately. Since I got my floor lamp from Ikea, I set up a little reading space and I still their for hours at a time enjoying a good book and some coffee. Its pure heaven! After finishing NOS402, I switched gears and read Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Avengers. The trailer for the movie blew me away, so I figured I'd read about these marvel characters I know nothing about! They are a rag tag team of galactic rejects. Its an enjoyable read and I love Rocket. When he is in a shoot out he says "Blam murdered you" at all of his enemies and its quite silly.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1336254717l/13414446.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1336254717l/13414446.jpg" width="206" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Since Guardians was a quick read, I picked up Prodigy by Marie Lu. I've read the first book in the series, Legend and immediately went into the next one. I think that was a mistake because I was just not feeling it and I stopped. I guess I need a break in between reading a series book, because second time around, I am enjoying it. If you are a fan of dystopia, then go check it out.<br />
