Latest Adventures....

Here are some of my latest adventures....

Last Friday Caitie and I went on a grand journey to Ikea! It is such a magical home decor wonderland. We got so frustrated because we wanted to buy EVERYTHING! I went with one goal in mind, a floor lamp. $70 later I left with a bunch of crap I'm not sure if I really needed. We were both really obsessed with this crazy lamp that looks like the death star when closed, then when open it looks like the death star mid explosion!

Sadly I left without the buying the lamp....this time! In the middle of our spree we got a bit peckish so we got some food. We had the most delicious elderberry cupcake in the world. I'm really dead set on finding elderberry liqueur just so I can make these cupcakes! It was like a little puff of heaven. It was light with a little buttercream frosting.

I haven't been doing too much on the crafting front, but I do have a few projects lined up. One of them is a part of an Iron Craft Challenge. This next challenge is all about Spring! I'm excited to transition and get away from the cold. I love living in a climate where I get to experience all of the seasons, however I am so done with winter! So for the Spring challenge, I plan on making a tiered planter. I'm going to paint it some nice color and put it on our porch.

This past week was also a special Etsy landmark for me, I've made 70 sales! I know it doesn't sound like much but the fact that I've sold 70 of my handmade items to mostly to people I've never met, is pretty amazing. The big 70th sale was to someone I know very well, my aunt! I'm planning on making her something extra special.

Another sale I made was my first custom order. I'm custom wall hanging sign for someone. It came out great and I hope she enjoys it!

I've been doing a lot of reading lately. Since I got my floor lamp from Ikea, I set up a little reading space and I still their for hours at a time enjoying a good book and some coffee. Its pure heaven! After finishing NOS402, I switched gears and read Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Avengers. The trailer for the movie blew me away, so I figured I'd read about these marvel characters I know nothing about! They are a rag tag team of galactic rejects. Its an enjoyable read and I love Rocket. When he is in a shoot out he says "Blam murdered you" at all of his enemies and its quite silly.

Since Guardians was a quick read, I picked up Prodigy by Marie Lu. I've read the first book in the series, Legend and immediately went into the next one. I think that was a mistake because I was just not feeling it and I stopped. I guess I need a break in between reading a series book, because second time around, I am enjoying it. If you are a fan of dystopia, then go check it out.

I've been busy !

My goal for this year is to focus on my Etsy shop! So in order to do that I need a new batch of stuff, so I've took a trip to the fabric store and loaded up on supplies. I am proud to say I have a new batch of items in the shop.

Since librarian is in my blog/shops name I thought it needed to be reflected in some of my creations. So I made a new bag, a tote perfect for a library visit. They are made with duck cloth (so they are nice and durable) and the finished size is 12 X 12. I gave these bags some nice new leather straps, a magnetic snap and a removable sleeve for your library card. The designs featured all have to do with reading.

I've been keeping up with the zipper bags. They are one of my best sellers so far. I even have gotten some lovely reviews. This one is my favorite review.

I have a lot of scrap fabric from patterned fabric. I didn't want it to go to waste so I got some snap hooks and made a few snazzy keychains. They have been pretty popular and I'm already out of snap hooks! More are coming, as soon as my new batch of snap hooks arrive.

Since I've been on a roll making stuff, I ran out of labels! So I ordered a new batch and went with something a little different. I get my labels from Inked Papers and they always do a great job. This time around I send them an image of the label and they made it perfectly!

Now I have to go back and make some more bags! Be sure to check the shop and see what new items are out!

Snowed in

The past few weeks there has been a constant threat of impending doom by snow! I love having a snow day as much as the next person, however I have just had some unexpected time off so I've been looking forward to the return of my normal routine. The polar vortex and snow hasn't let that happen. So I've tried to put the time to good use and I've kept myself busy. Here is what I have been up to.

My new favorite author is Rainbow Rowell. I awhile back I took out her latest novel, Fangirl. I was in the middle of reading it when some other books were made a higher priority. With those books done, I was able to finish up Fangirl. It's about, Cather and her first year at college. She struggles with her identity as she is becoming a grown up, but does that mean she has to give up her love of the magical Simon Snow novels? It was quite enjoyable and relatable!

Tim wanted to host a Super Bowl party. I'm not really crazy about Football, but hey it was an excuse to hang out with my friends and eat a bunch of food. Tim came across this Football bingo and it was entertainment for us non-football fans.

The game itself was terribly boring. However there were some entertaining commercials. I enjoyed the 80s nostalgia of the Radio Shack commercial.

Also accomplished was a walk about the neighborhood. The previous snow storms have been accompanied with freezing cold temperatures! The February 3rd snow storm was a little warmer. Since we were going a bit stir crazy we decided to take a walk. Caitie doesn't live to far away so we set her apartment as our destination. While walking around I realized that even though snow is a real pain in the butt, it is so beautiful! It was also a good workout!

Once we finally got to Caitie's we hung around and watched some Netflix. Kim made us delicious hot toddy's and we ended up watching Robot and Frank. It was a good movie about a retired cat burglar gets a robot helper. His love interest is a librarian and there was a storyline about how Frank is her only library patron and how they are going to modernize the library. At one point someone asked for the librarian and there was mention that it was an unrecognizable term.. I took issue with that.

Of course aside from movie watching and binge reading, I've been hard at work in the craft room. I've made a few new zipper pouches and have even added some key chain wristlets to the shop!

Q & A - Hey Its Ingrid

Its time for another installment of Q&As!!! Ingrid is a sassy teacher with a passion for pop-culture. Her blog, Hey Its Ingrid is all about her life and she also makes some super rad pillows on her Etsy shop. Let's learn more about Ingrid!

1. Where on the internet can we find you?

Twitter: @heyitsingrid
Instagram: heyitsingrid
Pinterest: heyitsingrid

2. Tell us a little bit about yourself.

Well, my name is Ingrid (if you couldn't tell from my usernames LOL) and I'm 25. I was born and raised on Long Island though I plan to eventually spread my wings and leave in the future. I'm a teacher but I'm currently subbing until I find a classroom of my own. I live off coffee and I love the internet. You can usually find me snuggled up in my dinosaur onesie binge watching a new series on Netflix. I think I'm a tv addict, but it's totally fine. I do venture outdoors every once in a while. I recently got back into horseback riding so that's exciting! I guess you can classify me as a nerd. I love to read, play video games, and go to the movies. Podcasts are something I've been into lately. My favorite is the Nerdist.

3. Tell us about your blog & Etsy shop. What inspired you to start? What are your goals for these projects?

My blog.. oh my poor blog. I have to admit I've gone through stages with it. I've been blogging before I even knew it was blogging. When I was 13 I started a livejournal and a blurty which I love to go back and read and just laugh at myself. My current blog recently received a makeover and I hope to start back up hardcore. It had so many great entries and the one day last year I snapped and deleted them all. *face palm* But really it's just a blog that I like to talk about anything and everything that's going on in my life. I guess you could call it a lifestyle blog. I really need to get better about posting though. Oops. :)

My etsy shop was a total accident. I already had the shop because two years ago I made and sold feather accessories. Once that stopped.. it just kinda sat there. One day I really wanted a certain throw pillow for my room but the ones I found online were way too much money. I said "Pfffft, I can make one myself!" So, that's what I did. I posted a picture on instagram and people really liked it. So I made a few more which were characters from favorite shows and movies and more and more people liked them. So I threw them up on the shop and sales just started happening. I have a ton of ideas for more pillows so keep an eye out. I also do custom orders. :)

4. What are some of your favorite pop-culture obsessions? How have they inspired your Etsy creations?

My number one favorite is Doctor Who. Anyone know who knows me knows that it is all I every want to talk about. I actually designed some new pillows that are many of the monsters from Doctor Who so keep an eye out for those! Don't Blink. ;) I hope to be able to go to the Doctor Who experience in Cardiff. It's on my to do list. :D
Oh, and Sherlock! Mannnnnn, I don't know enough people that watch Sherlock. I am constantly trying to convince people to watch that series. It's brilliant and just so well written. The cast is fantastic too. I definitely fangirl over that show. Now that I think about it, I should really make a Sherlock pillow.

5. What are some of your favorite blogs ? What do you like about them? And why should we read it?

Like I mentioned before, I do love the Nerdist. I love that he started off with a podcast and has gone on to do so many great things. He has a website, youtube channel, blog, podcast, hosts tv shows, and now has a tv show of his own. Chris Hardwick has created an empire from one simple thing and I admire that about him.

I also recently stumbled across http://www.geekgirlpenpals.com/ I love this site! You answer a few questions about things you love and they match you up with a fellow nerdy pen pal. Each month has a theme and you get a new pen pal each month. I signed up for February so I'm really excited to meet new people from around the world.

6. Any fellow Etsy shops that you are loving right now?

I recently made some purchases from Geek Ink Designs. I've always wanted a tattoo but I am constantly changing my mind as to what I want. This shop sells awesome temporary tattoos and they're all nerdy! They have some fantastic doctor who ones. (I ordered the tardis)

December is moving along. Despite feeling really crappy the past few weeks I have been making an effort to get some projects done. Here is what I have been up to.

We finally got a tree! This time around we went with a Basal fir. I was a little nervous because its my first Christmas with a cat. I hear they like to make a mess of Christmas trees. So far Bmo has been a good kitty and he has just been hanging out underneath it.

I love putting together the tree every year because I forget what awesome ornaments we have. We have mostly Star Wars, a few Harry Potter and a lot of owls. One tradition we have been keeping up every year is that we each make our own ornament. I love seeing those because its part of our little story.

Speaking of ornaments, I have been getting ready for the next Craft Night. I've been trying to get into the habit planning these out and I've had this idea for a while. Thanks to this nifty little tutorial, I've learned out to recycle cereal boxes for crafty exploits. I thought they would make perfect ornaments. So the base, mixed with some Holiday scrap paper, mod podge and ribbon, you've got the perfect personalized ornament.

While unpacking I came across our little nativity. Its cute, but tiny. I'm not the most religious person but I feel that I needed to spiff up our nativity. I was inspired after seeing this on pinterest. Since I had some spare wood lying around I made a stencil and whipped this up in a few days.

After a lot of experimenting I think I may have finally perfected making my zipper pouches. I'm quite proud, so proud that I've listed some new pouches made with the new pattern and techniques.

After the fun festivities of last weeks's Harry Potter themed bridal shower, it was followed up by the arrival of Caitie's invites!
