Rifftrax with Teens - Library Life

I was a teenager when I discovered Mystery Science Theater 3000 for the first time. It was pretty magical. While channel surfing I came to the sci-fi channel and found a bad old movie on. I soon realized that people were talking over it and making funny jokes! I think a bunch of my friends discovered it around the same time because we would talk about it and have inside jokes influenced by MST3K. Fast forward a few years when as an adult I mentioned to someone how much I loved MST3K. The friend I was talking to, Mark, said "hey those guys are still riffing movies." He showed me RiffTrax. I was ecstatic! It was just like MST3k but with newer releases!

Since it was something I loved so much as a teen, I thought the teens at the library might also get a kick out of it. After mentioning it to the teen librarian, we set out looking up what riffs we could use. We did Avengers first and got a 'meh' review from the kids. We tried it again with the Hunger Games and I was thrilled to see them enjoy it. Here is a trailer for your enjoyment.

This is such a great simple idea to do with teens! All that is needed is a viewing space, a copy of the movie, the audio commentary and a speaker system. We are lucky enough to have a TV in the teen center and showed it on that. I downloaded the commentary from RiffTrax. They cost around four to five dollars. I then put that track on an iPod and used an iHome to play it along with the movie. The hardest part was getting the commentary and the movie in sync, so at first some of the jokes didn't match up. However I had one teen who was hell bent on getting them to match!

Afterwards they asked when we were going to do RiffTrax again. Librarian win! So head on over to RiffTrax and try it out at your library. This could also work with millennials because, like me, they grew up watching MST3K and miss it. If you try it in your library, let me know how it works out!

The Christmas Tree - Meme for Monday

Hey guys its Monday! I know this past weekend hasn't been an easy one so I hope this makes you smile a bit. That after all is the goal of Meme for Monday!

With Christmas almost a week away I thought this meme would be seasonal. This is one of my all time favorites and it has become a Christmas tradition. If you haven't seen this prepare to laugh! I have gotten many hours of enjoyment out of this not only because its hilarious but because I know so many Long Island mom's that are like this (including my own).

This is performed by comedian John Roberts. You may recognize the voice as Linda from Bob's Burgers. He has some other silly videos on his youtube channel

Doug <3 Movies

May 21. The best last day of the world ever! Me and the hubbins went to the city. We were very excited to see Doug Loves Movies. If u don't know what it is and u like to laugh...shame on u. To quickly get u up to speed it is a hilarious podcast hosted by comedian Doug Benson...and he loves movies. He always has comedians on and they joke about movies and play the Lenard Maltin game. Just go download it!
Anywho, so we got into the city and Tim was starting to get cranky. That means we needed to find some lunch pronto. So we decided on shake shack because it is numerlicious. But on the way there we ran into this weird street fair/food festival in Madison square park..and ba dang dang my tastebuds went to pleasure town. I got an amazing savory truffle mozzarella crepe from a place called bar Suzette. They also had this fried that looked amazing...sadly did not get them :( I. Will have to hunt this place down and get them. Then Tim got this briased sandwhichy thing that was pretty good. We also washed down our meal we these neato sodas with the result of delicious. It was quite a nice surprising thing to come across in the city. We had some time to kill so we hung around the park by this freaky head statue....

Then we made our way over the Gramacy theater. I look forward to listening to Doug Loves Movies every Friday and eases the pain of going to work :( the show was great and really funny as per usual. It was weird to see it in person. I was glad to actually see the physical gags I always get left out of in the audio version. I made a scott pilgrilm name tag sadly I was not chosen :(
I had hunch Chris Hardwick would be one of the guests and ta da he was there yay pictured below. It was a hilarious and a great show and am excited to see him when he comes around again. (Both Doug and Chris)
