A Magical Wedding....

This past week I have been recovering from a grand ol party that was Caitie & Matt's wedding! It was a pretty wonderful day full of laughs, tears, dancing, food and awesomeness. I thought I would share with you some of the really cool features of the wedding.

We walked down the asile to the Harry Potter theme. This wedding had a sci-fi/fantasy theme but it was dominantly Potter-fied. An unbreakable vow was a part of their ceremony!

Here is her Hogwarts trunk card box. It was stained, then white washed. I added the Hogwarts crest then I added their initials on the sides. It came out quite beautifully !

A few weeks ago while helping Caitie finish up some stuff she brought over her ring box and she wasn't sure what to do. She thought about a simple stain or something to make it pretty, I suggested making it a TARDIS. Since her nephew, the ring bearer, is a big Doctor Who fan, he was excited to dress up like the Doctor while walking down the asile.

It was a beautiful day and I was not only glad to have been there but I was really honored to be a part of it as a bridesmaid. I got to walk down the asile with one of my oldest buddies, Tyler. All the groomsmen looked quite dapper.

Some of nerdo friends, a few of them came over the other night and we had ourselves a little craft night. It seems that since a lot of people are still in school and the hurricane it has thrown a lot of things off. So after going the whole month of November with out a craft night, I called Michele and said 'girl we gotta meet up.' I had the idea of making possible Christmas gifts, because you know...tis the season.

I got some pin-spiration which led me to the blog, The Sweetest Occasion. It had great instructions and I decided that I needed to try it. I stopped at the Dollar Tree (guys this is my new favorite place!)

So we sat in my craft dungeon, waiting for some idea to come to us. We were on our iPhones waiting for inspiration to hit when I mentioned possibly doing something Harry Potter related like a snitch or a lightening bolt. Morgan suggested that I make his face. I really like the idea of drinking coffee out of Harry Potter's head, so I went for it! Morgan sketched out some tree branches while Michele went for some funky ass shapes. It was fun making them and just chatting with the gals. After we were done we baked those bad boys in the oven. Here are the results!

The next morning I made use of Potter mug. It made coffee taste all the more magical! I also plan on making another trip to the dollar store and stocking up on more mugs because I think these are going to be everyones christmas presents this year (to those that read the blog, act surprised!) I'll even get some hot cocoa or K-Cups and stick in the little muggles (get it? Potter humor) 

If you want to make your own here is what I did to make them. I followed the instructions from this blog I mentioned earlier (the Sweetest Occasion)


Materials & Tools

• White ceramic mug
• An array of sharpie markers 
• Oven 

Instructions

• Clean those mugs good! I used soap, water and a bit of windex 
• Think of something super neato to put on your mug
• Start drawing your design. Its ok if you make a mistake! Break out that windex and wipe away the oops.
• Now you can bake 'em! DO NOT PRE-HEAT! The ceramic is very sensitive to temperature. So stick them in the over THEN turn the over to 350 * 
• Set a timer for 30 minutes. After the timer is done, turn the oven off let' the mugs cool.
• Then enjoy! 
• F.Y.I. best not to put them in the dishwasher or microwave

Good-bye in a bag

This is a picture of me and two of my best friends, Caitie and Kim. I was sad to hear that Caitie was going to move and finish her masters degree in New Paltz. Shortly after Kim announced she was leaving... for Africa. (like the Lion King, safari Africa). As much as I am missing these ladies I am really proud of them both.

I wanted to send them off with something that was practical. So I came up with the idea of making them a laundry bag. It is pretty much a giant drawstring bag so if you want to make one follow my tutorial and increase the size. I made mine with a yard of fabric. It makes a great gift for anyone that is going away to college or in their first apartment. I stuck a few little trinkets in the bags and they loved it.

I was originally just going to do a color fabric, but I came across these trees at the store and they reminded me of Caitie because her engagement ring resembles a tree branch (and its really pretty, but I digress.) The other fabric is a print and matched the tree fabric nicely. For the drawstring I was able to buy a nice rope chord at Joann's fabrics. I doubled the side of the bag and it worked out nicely.

It's been a few weeks with out the ladies but so far they are doing well. Caitie is teaching a class as well as finishing her Masters Degree and watching massive amounts of Doctor Who with her roomie, Lindsey.

Meanwhile is Kim on the other side of the world fighting off baboons and obscenely large insects. Not really sure if she'll will be able to use it for actually laundry there but I am sure it can come in handy trapping some ferocious scorpions. You can read about her adventures here.

Right now I have a few projects which will be blogged about shortly. I am still trying to find the right balance as far as managing my time. I love doing this stuff but it is A LOT of work. Anywhos... so long for now!
